Get To Know the Fascinating Co-Author of Passing as "Straight"... Sarina Mack
When I decided that I wanted to tell this story, I knew that I wanted to share this platform with other women who share the same story. Sarina’s bubbly personality showed through her submission and social media page for a coveted spot as a co-author for this book. I wanted the absolute cream of the crop who could tell their stories and connect with people across all walks of life. Sarina is her. I was so glad that Sarina and I could finally link schedules for this interview. Check it out!
Kinyatta: it’s such a pleasure to interview you for my blog! Tell my readers your name and a little bit about your self.
Sarina: My name is Sarina Mack and I am a 42-year-old mother of three wonderful KINGS. I’m originally from Brooklyn, New York but currently reside in Newark, Delaware for the past 10 years. I am an ambivert who loves eccentric fashion, spending time with my family and sista-friends, and laying out on some country's white sand and staring at their deep blue sea (this is what we call and empaths retreat “wink”). Healing is a gift that God has blessed me with and this is what I do daily. I had a great life, for the most part, I had almost everything I’ve ever wanted in life…. But HER!!
Kinyatta: What made you decide that now is the time to tell your story in the book “Passing As Straight”?
Sarina: I decided it was time to do this because two days before I saw your post on IG. I watched a sermon by TD Jakes called Shattering the Norm. In that sermon, Mr. Jakes speaks about doing something different in the new year and moving beyond your normal. Sitting and reflecting that this new year is not only a new year but rather a new decade I decided to respond to your post and break the / my NORMAL. Also, my gift from God is in helping people find themselves; but what I’ve never done was take the time to find myself and live unapologetically me. So now this is my time to Be FREE and live without the restriction of this society.
Kinyatta: What is the hardest thing that people “passing as straight” have to deal with in life?
Sarina: The hardest thing was constantly yearning to feel the deep connection/affection of a woman that a man couldn’t give me even after 14 years of marriage. I knew I could only get it from a woman; but, feared disappointed, shame, rejection, backlash, and the loss of family and friends. These feelings imprisoned me for most of my adult life. However, I no longer have that fear or care.
Kinyatta: What advice do you have to offer to someone passing as straight who wants to live their life openly because they are tired of hiding /concealing their life and love of their life?
Sarina: My advice would be for you to FREE yourself! Stop and think about you and what you need and want. You’re living a lie, it hurts and only you can stop it by giving yourself what you need. We only have one life and one chance to live it. You are who God made you so don’t be afraid to live in your truth. The people that truly love you will accept and support you. Live in your purpose… Spread your wings and fly!!
Kinyatta: This has really been an eye open opening conversation. I appreciate you for taking the time to share parts of your life with me and for being so transparent. If my readers are inspired by your story, what are your social media handles so that they can keep up with you?
Sarina: Omgeeee, I would totally love that……… My Facebook handle is: Sarina Mack and my IG handle is: @thebutterflyemerges .
Thank you so much Sarina! I can’t wait to release our book!!!
